There are certain things all designers get to hear and although they do not say anything because they are being professional some of these comments are lame and obvious. Things like it’s Christmas so we need to use red. I mean of course, that is pretty obvious. A designer is someone that is way ahead of other people when it comes to these kind of things. This is definitely one of the things not to say to a designer.
We have covered the point that designers think differently as compared to other people. When you are telling them the basic idea they are already half why through the design process in their mind. You do not have to remind them of things that are common sense and are obvious. These people are so creative and innovative that they can do things on their own with minimal help but that does not mean that they should be left alone to come up with something and then make it a reality.
Then there are people that send logos and images through Facebook. People who do not know that doing so reduces the quality of the image and that Facebook compresses these images so that they can be transferred readily. I would freak out if someone made this mistake with me. How designers keep their cool is beyond me. Although I admit this is not common knowledge but at least people should ask before they send something on Facebook.
The point is that designers have to go through a lot and have to listen to these weird comments and remarks. They have to explain to people the technicalities of sending an image through Facebook. They have to listen to lame ideas that are common knowledge for them and have to play along with their boss. Here are a bunch of things not to say to a designer. Keep them in mind next time you pop by the studio or meet your designer friend.
